BLUE DANUBE/BÉLA BARTÓK OPERA CONDUCTING COMPETITION 2021
Second Award Winner
"The work of the Spanish conductor Julia Cruz served as a beacon to clarify the path through a sound tapestry that at times is overwhelming, complex, and contradictory in the sense of the emotions that the characters experience from one moment to the next. [...] delicate coordination is needed to provide security to the ensemble, which is what the guest conductor achieved. This competence from the pit also allowed for an appreciation of Ginastera's technical skill, his expressive resources, which begin with an admirable and sophisticated orchestration and materialize into a richly nuanced score that not only accompanies the scene but also determines or brings it to life."

"Cruz performed with skill, handling the contrasts of tempi adequately, [...] it was a solid interpretation, cared for in detail, and the passionate final chord was received with a standing ovation."
